Cadent Gas, the UK’s largest gas distribution network, makes the switch to Legend

Cadent Gas is the United Kingdom’s largest distribution network bringing gas to over 11 million homes and businesses. With well over 5000 employees, part of Cadent’s responsibility is the management of an enormous network of over 82,000 miles of pipes, most of which are underground.

When an emergency happens, Cadent manages the National Gas Emergency Service for all gas customers in the United Kingdom – no small responsibility. Daily, they connect homes and renewable gas suppliers to their network which means their crews work long hours tirelessly from their vans day in and day out. And with the heavy cabling and steel machinery needed to access pipes underground, their vans needed to endure substantial impacts, scrapes, spills, and leaks of sometimes corrosive compounds.

The target was clear but a solution was challenging

The need arose for a new, robust solution to minimize, if not eliminate, the damage caused throughout an average workday. Further, Cadent required a sustainable solution that satisfied their ardent environmental targets. The two tandem requirements proved a substantial challenge until Cadent discovered the products of a Canadian manufacturer that used the latest technology and engineering techniques to create award-winning van liners that directly addressed Cadent’s targets. The manufacturer was LEGEND Fleet Solutions based out of Tillsonburg, Ontario, Canada.

The LEGEND Solution

Cadent signed up for a cost-efficient upfit of floor, wall, and door linings that provided an improved working environment for their engineers. At the same time, LEGEND brought to the table a set of products that were 75 to 80% recycled material.

Cadent was pleasantly surprised when it was realized that LEGEND products not only met the durability and sustainability requirements, but also increased their engineer’s safety at work through a unique ‘grippy’ floor surface that proved invaluable in the typically slippery work conditions inherent working in UK year round. Also unexpected were the ease of cleaning the floors. Unlike the traditional plywood floors of most work vans, LEGEND’s floors provided an easy-wipe surface that was completely resistant to liquid spills and oils, making the floors completely warp-impervious. Perfect for the arduous, grime-heavy industrial work Cadent dealt in daily.

Furthering the benefit, Cadent learned that the new linings and floors increased their vehicle’s value.

Cadent Gas came away with a fleet of extraordinary vehicles that served as the workspace for hundreds of hard-working engineers and were safely, effectively improving the ride for Cadent’s Legends of the Road.
